Marten Toonder's beloved sailor Kappie faces a formidable opponent in this 2013 Stripstift album — the cover by Piet Wijn sets the scene dramatically, with our pint-sized seafarer scrambling in a small boat beneath a crescent moon as an enormous, toothy blue whale looms over him from the churning waves. The scale contrast between the plucky little sailor and that massive creature is genuinely thrilling, rendered with expressive linework that captures both tension and humor. Written by Eiso Toonder with art by Piet Wijn, Kappie en de blauwe walvis is a fine entry in this long-running Dutch adventure series.
