Kabuki Reflections #4

David Mack's watercolor artistry is on full display in this fourth installment of Kabuki: Reflections, where the cover presents two figures — a standing woman in a purple bodysuit with dark flowing sleeves and long gloves, and a second woman collapsed in a lavender kimono on the ground below, a curved blade resting near her. The dreamy, petal-strewn composition earned praise from Bill Sienkiewicz and Brian Michael Bendis (quoted right on the cover), and it's easy to see why — there's an elegance and emotional weight here that's rare in 2002 superhero publishing. If you appreciate comics as a genuinely literary visual art form, this series deserves a spot on your shelf.
