Kabuki #5

David Mack's Kabuki has always walked the line between comics and fine art, and this fifth issue — subtitled "Deeper" — makes that ambition immediately visible. The cover presents a luminous blue-skinned figure, eyes closed and arms folded inward, surrounded by roiling flames that fill the entire background with cascading oranges and golds, while delicate green wisps curl at the edges like something half-remembered. It's a striking, meditative image that earns the Comics & Animation quote printed at the top: "poetry and prose as art.
