In "null," Kaänga races to stop Bull Brannigan from draining the lake near the Mgombas village, fearing the ancient city beneath could be destroyed—or worse, awakened. Brannigan, driven by greed, schemes to sacrifice Kaänga and Ann to the village’s spider-god, but Kaänga narrowly escapes the trap. As the lake recedes and the hidden city looms, the jungle itself turns against Brannigan—leading to his demise at the hands of the very creatures he sought to exploit.

In "Fire-Birds from the Sky!", a cunning con man named Bronson tricks the Tulagis into believing he commands the sky gods, using hot air balloons to fuel his deception. When Kaänga uncovers the fraud, he confronts the impostor, leading to a dramatic confrontation that ends with Bronson’s downfall.

In "null," Kaänga is called upon to settle a dispute over a sacred idol, but his decision sparks outrage among the cliff people, who steal both the idol and Ann, planning to sacrifice her to it. With help from Dorna—a young woman he once saved—the two craft a daring plan using fireworks to scare the cliff people and rescue Ann, all while trying to restore peace to the valley.

In "The Dead Who Could Not Sleep," Kaänga and N'geeso uncover a dangerous deception when unscrupulous archaeologists manipulate the N'ganas into believing their gods are still alive—using fear and false rituals to justify stealing sacred treasures. As the line between myth and menace blurs, the two must act before the truth is buried beneath greed and lies.
