This anthology issue contains five crime stories adapted from true police and FBI cases. "A Handful of Death" involves Dutch Linden, who reaches for a jade statuette in San Francisco's Chinatown on September 3, 1949, only to discover it is cursed to bring death to anyone who touches it, leading to his downfall. "Much Too Pretty" depicts burglars who target a New York City apartment and steal a photograph of society matron Mary Whitcomb, then attempt to use it to blackmail her, but are ultimately caught by police. "Preventive Medicine" tells of Sheriff Ralph O'Malley of rural Iowa who distributes descriptions of a con man to local grocers, leading to the criminal's arrest when he attempts to pass a bad check. Additional stories include "Fate Takes a Hand," about a Maryland housebreaker caught by a pawn shop clerk, and a concluding piece honoring J. Edgar Hoover's contributions to crime detection.
