Justice League of America #54
Part one of "The Rise of Eclipso" arrives with a cover that makes an immediate impression — a corrupted, blue-skinned Eclipso-possessed Superman looms at center, flanked by similarly corrupted versions of Supergirl and what appears to be Jade, while a dark-clad Donna Troy figure and a menacing caped villain stand in the background, all bathed in cold moonlight with a fallen green-costumed hero crumpled at their feet. Brett Booth's linework gives the assembled corrupted heroes a genuinely unsettling energy, their purple-tinged eyes and pallid skin making familiar figures feel suddenly threatening. If you've been following DC's 2011 event landscape, this "Shadow Warriors" chapter looks like exactly the kind of dark, high-stakes ensemble story the Justice League title does best.
