“Deuces Wild”

Ted McKeever's singular vision is on full display in this concluding chapter of the two-issue Junk Culture series from DC/Vertigo. The cover — painted entirely by McKeever — depicts a wide-eyed, wild-mouthed figure sprawled among a chaotic heap of discarded consumer debris, his head nearly crushed beneath the heavy laced boots of a figure looming above him, legs dangling inverted into the clutter. It's a disorienting, darkly comic image that perfectly captures the series' anxious fixation on the wreckage of modern life, and "Deuces Wild" promises a fittingly unsettling finish.
