In "Kongen i gull-elven," a magical river king tests the hearts of three brothers, turning a once-bountiful valley into a wasteland when its selfish owners fail his trial. Only the gentlest brother, Gluck, proves worthy, and through his kindness, the valley begins to bloom once more.

In "Den misfornøyde kråken," a crow grows envious of peacocks and tries to transform himself by wearing a few stolen peacock feathers, only to be rejected by both species. Left feeling isolated, he comes to understand the value of embracing who he truly is.
