Tom Griffin is struck by his malaria and wanders off. Jim takes charge of delivering the payroll. The best lead bull elephant, Taw-Sin, struck by seasonal madness, has deserted. Enraged by the scent of the other elephants, he assaults the caravan, then leaves. Later, Dacoit bandits raid. Taw-Sin, ridden by Tom Griffin, charges and disperses them. Both are on the mend. Griffin calls for the tether chain, as "Taw-Sin'S temper is still a bit uncertain."
