Jim and Lil return to shore to rescue their friend Doctor Winston, who has been staked out by the Tamils. The story "Flowers of Peril" features Jim facing incredible odds to save them from a mysterious threat called "Drums of Doom." After successfully escaping with the doctors, Jim learns that his ally Barlow—a man he trapped and believed dead—is actually alive and has been working with the British Foreign Office. Barlow reveals he knew of Jim's wartime association with Hitler and has been using this knowledge, though Jim suspects Barlow may be allowing him to go free out of a sense of respect despite their dark shared past.
