“The Treasure of Tembo Wanculu”

In "The Treasure of Tembo Wanculu," a clever ruse by Wambi backfires when his prank as a spirit frightens his friends Tawn and Ogg, leading to a rift and spreading distrust. With the cheetahs exploiting the chaos, Wambi must reclaim his honor by using his disguise once more—this time to protect his companions. Written by Roy L. Smith and illustrated by Henry Kiefer, this 1952 adventure blends suspense and redemption in a jungle tale that’s as sharp as it is suspenseful. Cover by Henry Kiefer.

As a joke, Wambi disguises himself as a spirit and frightens Tawn and Ogg. They are angered and say they no longer trust him. Word spreads that Wambi no longer has friends and the cheetahs take advantage of the situation by engaging wanton killing. Wambi then uses his disguise to frighten the cheetahs and is forgiven by Tawn and Ogg.
