“The Moons of Devil Drums”

In "The Moons of Devil Drums," a gripping tale from Jungle Comics #143 (1951), the enigmatic Kaänga sets out on a mission to reclaim an ancient ape idol stolen by the white safari raider Larsen. With the help of a freed woman and guided by the weight of tradition, Kaänga journeys deep into the heart of the jungle to return the idol to its sacred place—only to uncover a hidden truth in the ruins below. Written by Frank Riddell and illustrated with raw intensity by Maurice Whitman, whose dynamic pencils and inks define the cover and interior alike, this story blends primal adventure with a quiet dignity, as Kaänga must prove himself not just to the jungle’s guardians, but to the legacy he carries.
