Jules Verne - Voyages extraordinaires #5
Adapting Jules Verne's Aventures de trois Russes et de trois Anglais dans l'Afrique Australe, this fifth volume in Clair de Lune's handsome "Voyages Extraordinaires" series kicks off the story's first half — "L'expédition." The deep green cover, framed with compass-rose ornaments, presents a group of six expedition members in colonial whites standing confidently on the African savanna, a geodesic survey instrument at their center and zebras grazing in the background, immediately evoking the spirit of scientific adventure at the heart of Verne's original novel. Adapted by I. Figuière, it's a beautifully composed introduction to one of Verne's lesser-known but thoroughly gripping tales of exploration and uneasy international cooperation.
