Two young children ride a rocket-propelled torpedo through a purple twilight sky, launched straight out of a cannon atop an exotic domed fortress — Daniel van den Broek's artwork bursting with the kind of wide-eyed wonder that Jules Verne himself would have applauded. A startled bird tumbles out of their path as the pair soar high above the rooftops, setting the tone for what "De kinderen van kapitein Demo" promises to be a gleefully adventurous third volume. Written by Robbert Damen and fully illustrated and colored by Van den Broek, this 2024 MENLU release looks like a treat for fans of breezy, all-ages adventure comics with a classic literary heart.
