The crossover was announced in October 2018, roughly a year after Jughead: The Hunger graduated from one-shot to ongoing series on the strength of positive critical reception. Frank Tieri, who had shepherded The Hunger throughout its run, was the natural choice to write the event, and he retained the Kennedy brothers — Pat and Tim — as his core art team, the same pairing that had defined The Hunger's visual identity; Joe Eisma joined them on interior pages, with Matt Herms providing the moodily desaturated, blood-red color palette that critics singled out as integral to the book's grindhouse atmosphere. Editorial oversight came from Archie Co-President Alex Segura and Senior Director of Editorial Jamie Lee Rotante, situating the series firmly within Archie Horror's increasingly ambitious slate that also included the concurrent Blossoms 666 limited run.
