DC's scarred bounty hunter finds himself in very different trouble in this 1982 novel-length adventure, "In the Lair of the Manchus!" Cover artists Ross Andru and Dick Giordano put Jonah Hex right in the thick of it — surrounded by multiple attackers outside a moonlit building, he's swinging hard with what appears to be a sack or improvised weapon while fighters close in from every direction and a figure lies fallen at his feet. It's a striking image that promises Michael Fleisher's story will take Hex far outside his usual frontier stomping grounds.
