Jonah Hex #24
There's delicious irony on the cover of Jonah Hex #24 — a man dressed in full preacher's collar and black clergy coat insists he's "The Reverend Julian" and a man of the cloth who cannot partake of violence, all while a large revolver is thrust prominently into the foreground and armed cowboys flank him on either side. Luis Dominguez's cover art captures that perfectly tense Western standoff energy, leaving no doubt that this "minister" is not quite what he claims. With Michael Fleisher scripting "Minister of the Lord," this 1979 DC issue delivers exactly the kind of sun-baked moral ambiguity that made Jonah Hex one of the era's most compelling Western comics.
