Richie Smyth and Dean Hyrapiet's Dead Soldier charges into its second chapter with a cover that pulls no punches — a battle-worn soldier, tin helmet low and bayonet drawn, strides through a hellish firestorm with an ammunition belt trailing from his weapon and blood on his hands, while a fallen comrade lies in the chaos behind him. The painterly artwork gives the whole scene a grim, almost cinematic weight that feels fitting for a war story pitched squarely at mature readers.
