The opening chapter of John Lord arrives in Dutch-language form from Dark Dragon Books, and Patrick Laumond's cover art makes an immediate impression: a massive, roaring bestial figure looms over a tall ship on a blood-red background, while in the foreground a composed woman in a white blazer, a suited man, and a uniformed officer stand their ground amid a cluster of shadowy figures. "Wilde dieren" — Wild Animals — proves an apt title for imagery this visceral and atmospheric. With Denis-Pierre Filippi on writing duties and Laumond handling both pencils and inks, this 2021 release looks like a compelling blend of maritime menace and human drama.
