About this Issue

Jim Henson Presents #4 serves as the closing chapter of a four-part anthology miniseries that gathered five distinct Henson universes under a single cover for the first time in comics form — Fraggle Rock, The Dark Crystal, Labyrinth, The StoryTeller, and Farscape — representing one of the broadest multi-property celebrations of the Jim Henson Company's creative legacy ever attempted in a periodical comic. The issue's centerpiece, the conclusion of Seanan McGuire and Countandra's 'The Heretic and the Wanderer,' delivers the full origin of Skekgra (the Heretic), expanding the canonical backstory of a character fans first encountered in the Netflix series The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance and giving comics readers context that the television medium left largely implicit. As the series finale, this issue also marks the culmination of the anthology's experiment in rotating creators and tonal registers — from Fraggle Rock's gentle humor to Farscape's adult edge — demonstrating that the Henson properties could sustain a versatile, multi-voice anthology format without losing their distinctive characters.

History

The series was produced by BOOM! Studios under its Archaia imprint in partnership with The Jim Henson Company, with solicitations first appearing in late 2024 and the debut issue shipping January 8, 2025; BOOM! and Archaia had already built a long-running relationship with Henson properties dating back to Fraggle Rock and Dark Crystal comics from around 2010. Issue #1 sold out at the distributor level almost immediately, prompting a second printing with new cover art by Danny Luckert, a strong vote of confidence that informed the completion of the four-issue run through May 2025. The series was coordinated around a rotating stable of writers and artists — including Shannon Watters (Lumberjanes), Seanan McGuire, Corinna Bechko, Christine Larsen, Aabria Iyengar, and Kyla Vanderklugt — assembled under the editorial structure BOOM!/Archaia had refined across years of Henson anthology and miniseries work. The complete series was subsequently collected into a hardcover edition scheduled for November 4, 2025.
