About this Issue

Jezebelle #1 marks the solo debut of the Wildstorm Universe's supernatural heroine Jezebelle — a mystically empowered teenage girl — launching her from a supporting role in the 2000 'Devil's Night' crossover event into her own headlining series. The mini-series represented WildStorm's early-2000s effort to expand its universe beyond its signature super-team books by developing a female-led occult-action title, giving the character a dedicated six-issue arc titled 'A Small Corner of Hell.' Though the series remained self-contained and did not spawn further solo adventures, it stands as a notable example of WildStorm's post-DC acquisition ambition to diversify its line into supernatural genre territory. The title also carries a unique dual-cover variant on issue #1, a packaging choice that signals WildStorm's direct-market promotional strategy of the period.

History

Jezebelle the WildStorm character was introduced during Wildstorm's 2000 'Devil's Night' crossover event before earning her own mini-series the following year. Writer Ben Raab — then actively working across both DC and WildStorm titles including Gen 13, Excalibur, and Beast Boy — scripted all six issues under the story title 'A Small Corner of Hell,' with Steve Ellis handling the pencils throughout. John Layman, who would later become widely known as creator of Chew at Image, served as editor on the series during his tenure as a WildStorm staff editor. The book was published under the WildStorm imprint as a direct-market-only title and shipped between approximately March and August 2001.
