Jesse James and his Dog River Bunch intercept a Union Pacific train carrying gold near the River Flats, but after the holdup, Jesse takes refuge in a widow's home where a man named Hiram arrives demanding payment of a mortgage debt. Jesse gives the widow money to save her home, then rides out on the Helltown Turnpike where he is ambushed by bandits who steal the widow's money. Seeking refuge in an abandoned mine, Jesse and his companion discover quicksand inside and struggle to escape the treacherous pit.
