Jesse James leads a band of raiders on a destructive mission across Alta California, targeting Mexican settlements in the region. A young boy named Jim, separated from his family, is rescued by authorities and placed in a Kansas orphanage, where he later discovers he has an uncle in Arizona. Jim is eventually reunited with his Uncle Tuck and taken back to Arizona to recover, where he learns of plans by the Cross and Crescent gang to rustle cattle from the Forktongue Ranch. When the rustlers strike, Jim helps stop the cattle thieves in a gunfight, proving himself brave despite his youth.
