Jackie Robinson faces pressure in a crucial World Series game against the Yankees when he discovers a mysterious new bat that appears to be a Big League Louisville Slugger. After using the superior equipment to hit a homer, Jackie becomes concerned about the bat's origin and investigates, eventually learning it was found by a young boy and tracing its connection to a sports equipment shop robbery. The story follows Jackie's efforts to return the stolen bat while also depicting his admiration for his friend Mack's track accomplishments at Oregon, where Mack set a collegiate broad-jump record and later broke another record at a Southern California meet.
