Shona remembers the night when a gang laid in wait for her and Tommy, and started beating him up. Shona offered to go with the gang if they would leave Tommy alone. Tommy pleaded with her that he would rather get beaten half to death than to lose his self-respect, but she couldn't bear to see him beaten and went anyway. Things were never the same between Tommy and Shone after that.
