The main Jack-in-the-Box story involves Jack calling his friends—Peter Panda, Raggedey Jane, and Herman the Elf—to his home, where he tells them of a fairy's visit and her promise to grant him good fortune. "The Story of Sir Launcelot of the Lake" recounts the legendary knight's adventures, including an encounter with three knights near an apple tree where Launcelot and his nephew are resting. A science fiction story features a bald scientist and a small creature discussing a boondium bomb container, which explodes in a yard, with a character proposing to use the boondium to power a rocket to Mars.
In "Jumping Jack," a legless jack-in-the-box finds himself mocked by a spiteful rival, but a mysterious visit from his fairy godmother offers him a path to the legs he's always wanted—if he can prove himself worthy through good deeds. As Jack sets out to earn his wish, his envious tormentor schemes to sabotage him at every turn, leading to a race against fate that will test whether kindness truly has its rewards.
Sir Launcelot of the Lake, the mightiest fighter of King Arthur's Round Table, sets out on a quest for adventure with his nephew Sir Lionel—only to discover that a mysterious knight has been capturing and imprisoning noble warriors. When a young lady reveals the villain's identity and location, Launcelot faces off against the treacherous Sir Turquine, but his greatest trials come not from honorable combat: a cunning lady and her husband Sir Phelot scheme to trap him without his armor, testing whether even the greatest knight can overcome treachery as well as steel. This tale showcases Launcelot's courage and code of chivalry as he fights to restore honor to the Round Table.
