The twenty-sixth volume in Dodier's long-running Belgian detective series finds Jérôme K. Jérôme Bloche in a genuinely atmospheric setting — trench-coated and lantern in hand, he peers up at a gnarled tree in a dark, fog-draped forest, its title mystery — Le Couteau dans l'Arbre ("The Knife in the Tree") — quietly ominous in the shadows above him. Dodier's cover work beautifully captures the series' trademark blend of noir mood and human-scaled intrigue, with the warm lantern light carving Bloche's figure out of an enveloping blue-grey night. Published by Dupuis in 2017, this is a fine entry point into one of Franco-Belgian comics' most consistently enjoyable detective series.
