A couple involved in crime is caught by FBI agents and arrested; they are separated and tried, with the judge sentencing them to federal penitentiary as punishment for their disgrace to the community. Months later, both are released and resolve to start anew with a clean slate. In a separate story, a boxer named Johnny Hogan suffers a serious injury during an eleven-round fight that may end his career; his wife Charlie discovers he has been drinking heavily upon returning home, and learns he has taken a job at a newsstand while recovering. A soldier named Larry serves overseas during wartime and corresponds with a woman named Peg, who eventually visits him; after he is discharged and sent home gravely ill, Peg visits him regularly until he recovers and they are reunited.
