Frank Tieri took over Iron Man Vol. 3 from issue #31 and steered the title through #49, working under editor-in-chief Joe Quesada's early Marvel tenure. In a contemporaneous interview with IronManArmory.com, Tieri described the Ty Stone storyline as a conscious effort to center Tony Stark's personal history — competitive childhood dynamics, parental rivalries, and romantic entanglements — rather than purely action-driven plots, stating he wanted to show 'what Tony Stark is all about.' Penciler Alitha E. Martinez, who also provided the cover for this issue, handled interiors alongside inker Rob Hunter, forming the artistic team that carried this arc through its opening chapter.
