Invisible Republic #4
Gabriel Hardman's stark, atmospheric cover for this fourth issue of Invisible Republic draws the eye immediately to a lone figure — bag in hand, back to the viewer — trudging toward an imposing futuristic tower that glows with faint red light amid sweeping, almost violent black-and-white brushwork. Splashes of red on the ground add a quiet unease to the scene, while the fractured, monumental shapes surrounding the figure suggest a world in some state of collapse or upheaval. Written by Hardman and Corinna Bechko with colors by Jordan Boyd, this 2015 Image series continues to announce itself as one of the more visually assured science fiction comics of its era.
