“Bitter Conclusion”

In "Bitter Conclusion," the escalating tension between resistance and suppression reaches a breaking point as Arthur and Maia flee the aftermath of a deadly raid, their trust fraying under the weight of betrayal. With Nica pulling strings behind the scenes and Babb caught between obedience and conscience, the truth buried in Fran’s journal finally surfaces—though not before a desperate attempt to destroy it fails. Written by Gabriel Hardman and Corinna Bechko, with art and inks by Hardman, colors by Jordan Boyd, and letters by Simon Bowland, this issue delivers a gripping, emotionally charged chapter in the Invisible Republic saga, its stark cover by Hardman capturing the story’s mounting dread.

In the past story line, a year before the party at Nica's, Arthur and Maia escape a raid. Disquieted by her meeting with Nica, Maia tries to convince Arthur to quit, but a huge explosion kills Jas and injures them. They flee, blowing up a truck as a diversion. Presently, Nica convinces Babb to suppress the entire story, but secretly, he tells his editor to proceed. He is moved to where Fran has already been detained and beaten. There, after attempting to destroy the journal in Fran's bag, he's thwarted and imprisoned. Finally he learns that the journal finally has been published.
