“Pick-Up Girl!”

"Pick-Up Girl!" kicks off in 1951 with a raw, intimate look at small-town Mary’s sudden plunge into New York’s chaotic social scene. As she navigates friendships with Debbie and Vickie, her choices lead her into danger and heartbreak—until she finds unexpected stability with Brian, the assistant district attorney. Louis Zansky’s expressive art brings the story’s emotional highs and lows to life, while Raymond Johnson’s moody cover captures the era’s bold, unapologetic style.

Small-town girl Mary moves in to a New York apartment with Debbie and Vickie, and gets caught up in their wild, partying lifestyle. Mary is attracted to Brian, whom she meets accidentally, but instead dates flashy Fred, only to learn he’s married and merely wants her as his mistress. Debbie dates drug dealer Lucky, who abuses and eventually murders her; Vickie takes an overdose of sleeping pills. Mary learns Brian is an assistant district attorney: they get married and have a child.
