A brooding, moonlit close-up dominates this 2016 Casterman entry in Sokal's long-running noir series — Canardo himself stares out with those striking, unsettling green eyes, revolver in hand, every line of his face radiating hard-boiled menace. The Dutch title De Dood Heeft Groene Ogen ("Death Has Green Eyes") sets a fittingly dark, atmospheric tone for this twenty-fourth album. Fans of European detective noir will find plenty to savour here.
