Mandrake performing in London is recruited by British Intelligence to help locate the missing Dr. Crane. Using hypnosis Mandrake is able to pull information from Mr. Larkin concerning Dr. Crane's experiments, he discovers that Dr. Crane had invented a weapon that only destroyed life, not buildings, and that he wanted to prove that knowledge to his nation's enemies to force peace. Underestimating his enemies abilities to force the delivery of knowledge he demonstrates his Proton Bomb, and is taken prisoner. Using hypnosis Mandrake is able to create enough confusion to free Dr. Crane.
