This anthology issue presents several stories depicted as picture narratives of Native Americans. "Red Fawn" by Clyde Dewey follows a young maiden who defies tribal custom by volunteering to hunt deer during winter to provide for her people, earning the respect of a tribal elder. "Chip of the Pony Express" depicts a station manager and his associates dealing with threats to the mail route, including an attack by a wild animal and a warning of danger from an outlaw gang. "Blackfoot Boy" shows a young boy caught between his father's command to hide during a conflict with Crow warriors and his own desire to fight, ultimately choosing to stay and defend his people against a raiding party.
