White Eagle, a Native American warrior, enters the palace of an Aztec chief seeking to challenge him as an equal rather than as a captive. The Aztec chief rules through fear and keeps guards to protect himself from his own people, which White Eagle views as cowardly. After White Eagle wounds all four of the chief's attackers, the chief sends warriors to pursue him, promising death to anyone who fails to bring him back. White Eagle escapes toward a lake in the woods, where he encounters a bear and uses a stake to subdue it, then a group of Utes awakens and pursues him after the bear's roar alerts them to his presence.
