“Mother Knows Best”

In "Mother Knows Best," a 1955 EC Comics gem, Karen and Ralph take her father, Mr. Edison, to a tailor for a custom suit, unaware of the quiet weight of the moment. When the tailor returns weeks later to fix a missing label, he discovers a family in mourning—and a suit that now carries more than thread and fabric. Written by Carl Wessler and illustrated with haunting detail by Graham Ingels, with colors by Marie Severin and letters by Jim Wroten, the story unfolds with a quiet dread beneath its everyday surface. The cover, by Jack Davis, captures the unsettling stillness of the moment.

Karen and Ralph take her father into a tailor shop to get an expensive, custom tailored suit. Mr. Edison complained over the cost, but the agreement was made for the suit to be made. Very soon, it was finished and Mr. Durley had Joey deliver it to the house. That night, the old tailor remembered he had not sewn his label into the coat and went to the home to correct the problem, only to find Edison had passed away, and the relatives wanted him buried in something decent.
