Case No. 006 wraps up this 2016 run of Howling Commandos of S.H.I.E.L.D. with a cover that earns a genuine laugh: a massive, bark-textured rock creature stands roadside beneath a mountain backdrop, thumb out hitchhiker-style, holding a sign that reads "WILL TOLERATE HUMANS FOR A RIDE." The deadpan humor is perfectly sold by Brent Schoonover's expressive linework, and the "AVENGERS CRIME SCENE" tape strung across the foreground adds just the right absurdist touch. Frank J. Barbiere and company close out their monster-squad adventure on a note that reminds you S.H.I.E.L.D.'s strangest operatives never take themselves too seriously.
