House of Mystery #38
A perfect slice of mid-1950s DC supernatural storytelling, House of Mystery #38 drops readers into a genuinely unsettling scene on Ruben Moreira's cover: two translucent, shrouded ghosts loom over a group of alarmed men, one specter pointing accusingly while declaring — via speech bubble — "Wait! He's an impostor! I'm the real ghost of Roger Coates!" The eerie confrontation between the living and the (multiply) dead sets a wonderfully tense tone for a book that also promises "The Man Who Had Two Ghosts," "The Voyage of No Return," and "The Man with the X-Ray Eyes." Ten cents bought a lot of chills in 1955.
