House of Mystery #23
In "The Flying Dutchman!", unemployed seaman Mike Dillon is dragged aboard the cursed ghost ship and forced into grueling labor. When he strikes the captain with a cutlass, the blade proves useless—only to reveal the ship’s true purpose as a front for a sailing counterfeiting ring. Art by Jim Mooney, with a cover by Ruben Moreira, this 1954 DC tale blends maritime dread with a twist of deception.

Unemployed seaman Mike Dillon gets shanghaied onto the fabled Flying Dutchman where he has to do menial work. Dillon protests and drives a cutlass through the cruel captain’s heart. The captain is unharmed, though. Later on Dillon finds out that the sword is just a fake one and the ship a front for a sailing counterfeiting operation.
