House of M #5
The fifth chapter of this Marvel limited series crossover (tying in with Astonishing X-Men and New Avengers) arrives at a striking moment, with cover artist Esad Ribić placing a young woman — eyes blazing with arcing white energy — at the absolute center of the composition. Looming behind her is a gathered cast of Marvel figures, including a recognizable Wolverine and Emma Frost among others, all rendered in Ribić's moody, painterly style against a purple-hued backdrop dominated by the House of M sigil. Brian Michael Bendis, Olivier Coipel, Tim Townsend, and Frank D'Armata power the interior of this penultimate-stretch installment of one of 2005's most ambitious Marvel events.

Emma Frost and Layla Miller link minds with a number of earth's heroes and show them that the House of M is not the "real" world. This is especially hard on Peter Parker who is living an ideal life with Gwen Stacy and Uncle Ben, two of his loved ones who are dead in the reality he comes from. As the heroes gather and try to figure out what to do about Magneto and his new mutant world, Logan's old SHIELD unit arrives and begins a battle. Layla zaps Jessica and her team and converts them to her side. Magneto, feeling an impending sense of doom, visits the Xavier memorial.
