Based on Arkadi and Boris Strugatski's source novel and brought to the page by Veiko Tammjärv — who handles writing, art, inking, and color entirely on his own — this 2025 Sonar/Voland & Quist graphic album is a striking piece of work. The cover sets a cool, unsettling mood: a nocturnal hotel exterior rendered in deep blues and black, with two vivid red rectangles — a door and a window — cutting through the darkness, while a solitary suited figure stands on an upper balcony and a shadowy, goggle-eyed face looms at the lower left. Translated from Estonian into German by Maximilian Murmann, this is an atmospheric adaptation that wears its noir sensibility with quiet confidence.
