☆ Be the first to review + Add to your collection — Join freeThis anthology issue contains at least two stories: "The Terrible Targa," in which Ranger Dox, a racing favorite, is told to throw a race in Southern Europe by threatening his sister's life unless he loses, leading him to contact authorities about the blackmail scheme; and "Drag Strip," featuring Dick Westbrook, a hot rodder whose father threatens to keep him out of the racing club due to his reputation, while Dick plans to prove himself at an upcoming strip race. A third story, "Duncan Winner," shows Kery dominating modified stock car races in nearby towns and being recruited by Bob Gray to compete on the West Coast and eventually in Europe.
Granger Dox is the favorite to win a brutal 200-mile mountain race through Southern Europe's Targa course, but he's being forced to throw the race—his sister has been kidnapped, and her captors have promised she'll be killed if he crosses the finish line first. When his rival Bart Sandy notices something wrong and investigates, the two drivers must work together to save her from the criminals who have taken control of the race.
Dick Westbrook, a wealthy hot rodder known for reckless drag racing and evading cops, agrees to a high-stakes race on a rain-slicked back road against members of a local car club who hope to channel his talent into their ranks. When the race goes dangerously wrong, Dick discovers that winning isn't everything—and that the scrappy club mascot might matter more than the trophy.
Kery Duncan has dominated the local racing circuit with her souped-up Lincoln Continental, leaving the town's hot rod enthusiasts in her dust—until a rival named Bob Gray challenges her to a high-stakes race on treacherous mountain roads. When Kery's brakes mysteriously fail during the race, both drivers find themselves in a desperate struggle for survival that will test not just their driving skills, but everything Kery thought she knew about herself and those around her.
