Ray Hammus discovers that George's Ford has low tire pressure, which George mentions cuts top speed at the end of the quarter-mile. George and Ray take the car to be modified with a special engine, balanced factory-packaged optimals, and other features, with work including a new 427 small-block stall, new valve work, and adjustments to improve traction. Three weeks later, the modified car is ready to race, with George noting it now has better traction and the fastest cars don't always win, reflecting what his friend Todd taught him about racing strategy.
