A young driver named Flash Robbins, who has spent years drag racing on country roads and developing an instinct for handling high-performance vehicles, competes in a back-road racing challenge. After initially racing a borrowed hot rod at an airport drag strip against a rival named Bubba Larson, Flash is given the opportunity to take out a fuel-injected Mercedes-Benz 300SL with instructor Ferdie to learn its capabilities on mountain roads. Flash demonstrates his natural talent by mastering the powerful vehicle's handling, earning praise from Ferdie for his driving skill and earning the title of "Back-Road Champ."
