A villain named Keene traps Hopalong and Mason in a cellar fire, but Hopalong escapes and pursues the thief who is making off with stolen goods. The issue also includes a Dubble Bubble gum advertisement and a "Cactus Brain" humor feature titled "Poorly Planted" about cowboys in Amarillo discovering the world's only helium plant.
Harry Mason discovers a map leading to a hidden fortune and sets out to claim it for himself—but when the Trawney family catches him digging it up, they insist on letting Hopalong Cassidy settle the dispute fairly. Desperate to keep the treasure, Mason seeks out Frank Keene, a washed-up actor known for his mastery of disguise, hoping the "Man of the Thousand Faces" can help him pull off a scheme to change the outcome.
Whitey Whiskers and Blabber Thomkins engage in an outrageous tall-tale contest on the farm, each trying to one-up the other with increasingly ridiculous lies about their property, animals, and crops. When Whitey finally claims victory with a whopper about his well being twelve inches deeper than Blabber's bottomless one, he demands Blabber bring his entire farm to settle the bet—leading to a satisfying comeuppance delivered with fists and a laugh.
When a lovestruck cowpoke named Hall learns that the girl of his dreams won't marry him unless he proves himself a hero, he cooks up a desperate scheme with his bumbling friend Dill to fake a dramatic act of devotion. But Dill's timing is about as reliable as a six-shooter with no bullets, and what starts as a clever con quickly spirals into slapstick chaos in this 1952 western comedy.
Hill Billy proves he's a man of remarkable efficiency when a stranger interrupts his chores, managing to power through milking, supper, and the dishes in record time. By the time he's ready to hear what the visitor wants, Hill Billy's whirlwind pace leaves the poor stranger absolutely speechless.
When a gambling schemer named Suggs witnesses an assay office robbery in Twin River, he hatches a cunning plan to claim the stolen loot for himself—by falsely accusing the notorious gunman Dead-Eye Dickey of an old murder and letting Hopalong handle the arrest. But Hopalong's quick thinking and sharp instincts soon unravel the web of deception, turning the tables on everyone involved and exposing the real crime at the heart of the case.
