Holmes (1854-1891?) #3
A lone silhouette stands framed in a dimly lit doorway, rendered in Cecil's atmospheric, shadow-drenched palette of deep grays and cool blues — an image that perfectly captures the brooding uncertainty promised by the subtitle "De schaduw van de twijfel" (The Shadow of Doubt). This third volume of the Belgian graphic novel series Holmes (1854/†1891?) continues Cecil and Brunschwig's haunting reimagining of the world's most famous detective, with the parenthetical death date still stubbornly marked as a question. Published in 2018, it's a beautifully unsettling entry in a series that takes its time with mystery and mood.
