Part two of "Super Guy" arrives in this August 2000 issue of DC's darkly comedic series, and John McCrea's self-inked cover sets the tone perfectly. A grotesquely rotund, disheveled figure in a battered superhero costume — cape askew, gut hanging out, glowing blue flame hovering in one outstretched hand and a martini glass dangling from the other — stands triumphant amid a cityscape of crumbling, smoking buildings and scattered bodies. It's a gleefully absurd image that captures everything Garth Ennis and McCrea do so well: poking irreverent fun at superhero convention while delivering something genuinely striking.
