Hitman #43

Hitman #43 brings Garth Ennis and John McCrea's darkly comic Gotham underworld to a fittingly absurd moment: the cover shows Tommy Monaghan — cigarette dangling, gun raised — while his companion urgently demands "Help me flush this, fool!" as a third figure is being shoved headfirst into a toilet. McCrea's cover art captures the series' signature blend of street-level tension and outright ridiculousness in a single perfectly composed bathroom brawl. If "The Morning After, The Night Before" is any indication, this November 1999 issue delivers exactly the kind of trouble Tommy can't quite walk away from cleanly.
