Against a sky of smoldering crimson clouds, a lone jester in a belled hat stands atop a rocky outcrop, arms raised as a swirling flock of enormous dark birds — ravens and gulls alike — wheels menacingly overhead. Turf's cover for this 2015 Daedalus album sets a wonderfully unsettling tone for "Gekwater," the opening chapter of Het Narrenschip, blending medieval folly with a sense of wild, ominous spectacle. If you enjoy richly atmospheric European fantasy comics, this first volume looks like a genuinely compelling place to start.
